The Revolutionary War
- Guilford Courthouse National Military Park - Greensboro
- This park is a Revolutionary War battlefield that commemorates the Battle of Guilford Courthouse between Major General Nathanael Greene's militia and Continental army versus Lord Charles Earl Cornwallis British and Hessian army, on March 15, 1781.
- Alamance Battleground - Burlington
- Here in 1771, an armed rebellion of backcountry farmers called Regulators battled with royal governor William Tryon's militia. The spark for this conflict was growing resentment in the Carolina colony against the taxes, dishonest sheriffs, and illegal fees imposed by the British Crown.Though the rebellion was crushed, a few years later their tactics became a model for the colonists fighting the British in the American Revolutionary War.
- Historic Halifax - Halifax
- The town of Halifax developed into a commercial and political center at the time of the American Revolution. North Carolina's Fourth Provincial Congress met in Halifax in the spring of 1776. On April 12 that body unanimously adopted a document later called the "Halifax Resolves," which was the first official action by an entire colony recommending independence from England.
The Civil War
- Bentonville Battlefield - Four Oaks
- The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. The Harper House (ca. 1855) is furnished as a Civil War field hospital. The site also includes a reconstructed kitchen and enslaved dwelling.

- North Carolina State Capitol Building - Raleigh
- The North Carolina State Capitol has been the active capitol building of the state since it opened in June of 1840. Visit the Capitol today to learn more about state government, citizenship, and the history of North Carolina and our capital city!

- The Greensboro Science Center is an aquarium, museum and zoo featuring exhibits that connect to nearly all of our 5th grade science units.
